- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup tamarind extract (soak tamarind pulp in water and extract the juice)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh curry leaves for garnish
Instructions
Marinate the Fish
- In a bowl, mix the fish pieces with turmeric powder, salt, and lemon juice. Set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare the Masala Paste
In a blender, grind the fresh grated coconut, dried red chilies, coriander seeds, and cumin seeds with a little water to form a smooth paste.
Cook the Curry
- Heat oil in a large pan. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Then Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until the raw smell disappears.
- Next Add the prepared masala paste to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring continuously until the oil separates from the masala.
- And Add the tamarind extract and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Season with salt to taste.
Add the Fish
- Gently add the marinated fish pieces to the curry. Simmer on low heat until the fish is cooked through, approximately 10-15 minutes, ensuring the fish is tender but not overcooked.
Finish and Serve
- Garnish with fresh curry leaves.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
